Textual analysis:Raging

Performance- Editing

Couple together in bed instantly establishes the relationship between the couple. They both looked relaxed showing that they are comfortable around each other, also the use of proxemics highlights this as they are intimately close to each other.

The woman looks aggravated and a little upset this suggests that an argument has occurred, this is created by the actors facial expression; also her eye line is downwards which suggests that she is upset about a recent conflict and it's luring in her mind

This is a collage of the mans distress because he thinks his partner is leaving him he shows this ion may different ways: His eye line is down showing that he is thinking about bad thoughts or memories. The actor also uses a mix of sad and plain facial expressions getting the consumers to for sympathies for him. Also his posture is a bit down symbolizing his negative emotions.

This is a collage of the couple having fun together, their affection is shown through proximity they are really close to each other which means they must be comfortable around each other. The male actors facial expressions is a complete contrast to how he was when he was trying to find her this shows the audience how much the female actor means to him. Also they do common couple behavior, for example holding hand and hugging each other these are acts of affection towards each other which instantly establishes a healthy loving relationship.

The female actress conveys her character to be very worried and agitated through her posture, where she is compact is suggests that she is scared of the world that surrounds her, this can relate back to the stereotypical role of woman, wanting a man to protect them. The woman is also seen to be strong, this is shown through her assertive facial expressions.

Video of pitch

    The feedback:
  • we were asked what sort of shots that we would use to depict the relationship within our video, we will use close up shots to see how intimate they are with each other and as we go through the video as there relationship gets worse we will use wider shots a long shots to show how they are drifting apart.
  • originally we had the idea of doing the video in rewind (so everybody walking and moving backwards etc) but then we got told about another idea of using flashbacks to create the sense of travelling in time as the start of the video will be the end of the relationship and throughout rest of the video going back to see what the relationship was before and at the beginning.
  • we was given the idea of taking the whole video in one shooting but in reverse as there are already some well known videos that have dine this, but we are going to start the video at the end of the relationship while throughout the video we will be going back through moments where they were happy and at the end of the video it will be the start of the relationship.
  • we were asked to show how we were going to show the relationship and how they are breaking up and it is coming to an end, for the video we will be starting with them further away from each other as she is breaking up with him, and throughout the video they will be getting closer to each other to show there relationship being good and very intimate.
  • we was also given another idea of having some dialogue at the beginning to show that the relationship is ending and then the music can start and go through finish to start.
  • we was also given something else to think about, this being to try and enhance on the emotions of the two people and try to show how much they love each other and how much they hate each other from beginning to end.

  • What we are going to do from this feedback:

  • to show how we are going to get the emotion from the relationship across to the audience we will use a variety of different shots and angles, some of these will be close ups of the couple to show the intimacy of their relationship and to show their emotions for each other, and medium to long shots for when they are getting more angry with each other and arguing and for when they break up.
  • originally our idea was to make the video but in rewind but from our feedback from the class we have decided to make the video begin from the end of the relationship and as the video goes on it will include flashbacks to their happier moments and to when they were having fun and we will end the video with the start of the relationship.
  • we was given an idea of taking the whole video in one big shooting (no cuts) but we decided to stick with the idea of cutting and having jump cuts between different shots to show that time has changed and they are different emotionally around each other.
  • from the idea of using dialogue in our video we have decided not to use and dialogue and just have them acting out the break up.
  • to enhance and embrace the fact that they have emotions for each other we will try to tell a story with the actors in how they act and the way they are in each shot of the close ups when they are closer together and the further away shots when they are more apart from each other.

Pitch (the actual one)

Name: Faded

Genre: Narrative

The genre we have chosen is a narrative, we chose this genre because we feel that the audience will become more engaged with a narrative styled video than an performance styled music video. We also got the inspiration for choosing a narrative genre from the original video of Faded- by Alan Walker.

Form: The form of our music video, we chose a music video because its not just fun but it can be very challenging to make so it will help us enhance our skills within the media industry.

Location: our music video will include a variety of locations
a kitchen- this is where the couple will argue
a beach- where they will have fun
a restaurant- have a meal
a field- where they will play with their mates
a bedroom- for a couple for intimate moments
a bus stop- where the guy will get dumped
Time: the time of day will vary from day to night as we show the different memories, the darkness will symbolize bad memories and the daylight will symbolize the good memories. We have done this because it can create two different atmospheres corresponding to the two the different moods at the times of the video, the happy mood and the angry mood.

Characters:
we have two main characters who are the man and the woman in the relationship
we also have extras who are the friends who are in some of the scenes where they are all having fun and playing
Plot: at the start of the video the female dumps the male after they fight and have an argument. The male is left on his own and is remembering the good times and the bad times of the relationship. These good times are having fun with friends (water balloon fight), roaming around London (seeing big land marks). The bad times are them having arguments and fighting with each other. At the end of the video the man realizes that the break up is for the better and moves on.

We thought that it would be cool to show the relationship in rewind where they are all moving backwards, e.g walking backwards. Instead we are going with the idea of starting the video at the end of the relationship and throughout the video it will be flashbacks of memories of good times and bad times in the relationship and then at the end of the video it will be him realizing that it is for the better.

Key micro features:
the establishment of the relationship
making sure that throughout the video all of the different scenes from different times flow smoothly
ensure that the audience knows what is going on at all times
Sound:
the music 'Raging'
Camerawork:
we will have some very close up shots to show the intimacy of their relationship
some further apart shots showing that they are moving away from each other
and some long shots apart to show that they have split up more and have been fighting
establishing shots to show where they are
two shots of them together
Target audience:
the target audience will be younger adults and older teens as they will be in relationship at this time and they could be arguing more instead of being in longer relationships

*CHANGES*
We have decide to make some new changes to the video. We have scrapped the rewind idea and we have changed the song to Raging by Kygo. We have also decided to add more of a summer feel to the video,we will do this by having a whole day filming in London.

Shot list and schedule

Shot used
What the shot conveys
Effect of shot on audience
Continuity, editing and framing
Order
Establishing shot
The establishing shot shows the location of the video to the audience and shows the adventurous scenery of London.
This shot instantly shows the audience the feel good and vibrant city of London, this will encourage the audience to enjoy the locations.
We will provide different angles and views of different locations, we will use quick cuts to keep the fast pace of the song going.

Close ups
The close ups will establish the couples intimacy towards each other and will demonstrate the actors having fun in a relationship.
______________
Close ups will also be used to show the male actors emotional facial expressions of being upset because of the break up.
Most people have been in relationships so they can relate to the scenario; this will allow the audience to understand the story more and relish special memories with their loved ones.
______________
The audience will be compassionate towards the male actor as everyone can understand emotional pain.
Most close ups will be bint eh middle of the frame to draw attention to the relationship, we can also have the couple to be on the far right or left of the frame to show the beautiful scenery of London. Slow-motion will also be used to symbolise that time slows down when they are together.
______________
We will use a mix of slow motion and fast motion to symbolise the intensity of the break up.
______________
Shot reverse shot will also be used for the close ups to show their emotional state towards each other.

Wide shots
This will be used to convey the idea that the couple are slowly drifting apart from each other, they can also highlight the famous land marks of London.
The audience will sympathise for the male actor as most people have gone through a break up.

Tracking shots
These shots will be used to track the good and bad moments of their relationship.
Again this will get a compassionate fell from the audience as most people will understand what it is to be like in a relationship and what it is to break up from a relationship.
We will have a mix of quick and long tracking shots to show what they are doing and to show how a relationship can be long lasting and to show how a relationship can end suddenly.

Two shots
These shots will be used to show the good and the bad of a relationship.
This will show the audience how quickly a relationship can go from happiness and fun to arguing and sadness.
During these shots the couple will be in the centre to gain attention to them but they will also be to the side a bit more to show the land marks that they have visited together.

Medium shots
These shots will be used to show the starting of the breakup of the relationship, also these shots will show good time that the couples are having.
These shots convey the idea that there are good parts and bad parts of all relationships, the medium close up symbolises that something’s not right in the relationship anymore.

POV shots
These will put the audience into the eyes of the couple, it was also highlight the famous land marks of London.
This will make the audience feel more empathetic and compassionate for the couple as they see first hand the negatives and positives of the couple’s relationship, this will also relate them as most people have been in a relationship and broken up from one.
We can use pans and tilt ups to show the way that the POV of the person is looking.

These are our ideas for the cinematography of the video but this may change during filming as we may get different ideas during this time.

Production design

To give our music video the summer vibe we would  need to reflect this from the colors and vibrancy by the use of  clothing. In our influential films the characters wear: Bright shirts, shorts, vest tops, skirts etc - clothes that are warn during summer time. Here's the guidelines for what I want the actors to wear during filming.

Girl:
We want the female actor to be attractive and gain the male gaze, costume wise this will be achieved by the dresses and tops which reveal a bit of the body, we want the dresses to be in a light colour during the London scenes reflecting her happiness. Although we want summer dresses we also want a
casual feel from the costume so the audience can relate more to the Performance of the music video. We would also like the actress to put on some make up so her face stands out in the video. Also some jewelry would be nice. For the restaurant scenes we would like a smart glamorous look.

Boy:
We would like the man to look casual in the London scenes. Like with the girl we want the boy to be good looking and get the female glance, to do this we want him to wear shirts and look sleek. We would like the male to wear shorts and if it's possible do some scenes
shirtless.

Water Balloon's
The Water balloons to be bright colors to give out the summer vibes.

Glass Cups
Just a simple glass cup to smash when the couple are arguing.
