Production design

To give our music video the summer vibe we would  need to reflect this from the colors and vibrancy by the use of  clothing. In our influential films the characters wear: Bright shirts, shorts, vest tops, skirts etc - clothes that are warn during summer time. Here's the guidelines for what I want the actors to wear during filming.

Girl:
We want the female actor to be attractive and gain the male gaze, costume wise this will be achieved by the dresses and tops which reveal a bit of the body, we want the dresses to be in a light colour during the London scenes reflecting her happiness. Although we want summer dresses we also want a
casual feel from the costume so the audience can relate more to the Performance of the music video. We would also like the actress to put on some make up so her face stands out in the video. Also some jewelry would be nice. For the restaurant scenes we would like a smart glamorous look.

Boy:
We would like the man to look casual in the London scenes. Like with the girl we want the boy to be good looking and get the female glance, to do this we want him to wear shirts and look sleek. We would like the male to wear shorts and if it's possible do some scenes
shirtless.

Water Balloon's
The Water balloons to be bright colors to give out the summer vibes.

Glass Cups
Just a simple glass cup to smash when the couple are arguing.

Video of Pitch and Pitch Feedback

Feedback:

  • People liked the concept of the narrative
  • They think that we need to show the female dancer's through dance at the end
  • To focus more on the girl
  • Dancing needs to be execute to a good level in order to impress the audience
  • Some people got confused with the narrative
  • I need to establish the emotions of the dancers throughout the whole video
  • The whole video needs to planned and checked through by other people

Response to Feedback

  • I will take on Katie's response and alter the idea
  • I will make a clear plan and check with people to make sure they will understand the plot and story

Pitch

Song:

 Try by P!nk (4:09)

Genre:

The type of music video we have chosen is a hybrid between Performance and Narrative, we chose this type of video to include the fun aspects of a performance video but still have the engaging story from a narrative music video. Also we wanted to add something different that will instantly catch the eyes of the viewers/consumers.

Form:

We are creating a music video which should be approximately 4 minutes. The music video has to be engaging and enjoyable for the audience.

Locations:
  • A dance/dram studio ( this is where the dancers will be rehearsing)
  • A stage (where the performance will take place)
  • A park/ restaurant etc. to show the couple together
  • A shop or canteen( Where the male dancer will cheat on the female dancer)
Time:

The time doesn't really matter as the video is being filmed inside however I would like a mix of day and night to show that time has gone past I will do this by altering the costumes and make-up

Characters:

  • Female dancer- She is the main character in the video. She has to be a skilled dancer and have some experience in acting
  • Male dancer- He is in the video most of the time, needs to be masculine and manly and again skilled at dancing and have some experience in acting
  • The girl- She's only in it for a couple of shots, the girl has to be good looking so the female dancer gets insecure and feels like she isn't good enough
  • A audience for the performance could be anyone willing to do it, they have to be energetic at the end
Plot:

The story is about a skilled dancer (about 16-17) who is preparing for a dance assessment, she gets her boyfriend who is also a skilled dancer to help her. The music video will start with the establishment that they are in a dance studio and also to establish that they are dancers and going out, I will do this by having the actors do ballet stretches e.g. table top, I will also have the couple playing with each other to show that they are a couple. Then the music starts for the first half of the music video it will be jump cuts of the couple dancing together and then the couple doing things together, to show time has passed I can use the fade effect, and keep changing locations and costumes, I would also like to add slow motion and fast motion, as it looks aesthetically pleasing. To show intimacy I will use a lot of close up showing emotion and I will also make the composition tight showing that they are comfortable together.

After this we will see the male dancer cheating with a girl, the female dancer finds out however doesn't confront the male dancer, there will then be jump cuts between the female dancer getting frustrated and up-set and both of the dancers dancing however the female dancer will have her movements more sloppy showing that she is aggravated.

At the end the couple will dance on a stage in front of an audience, I will use lighting so we cant see the audience properly; then at the end of the dance the female dancer will dump the male dancer and walk away.

Key micro features:

Editing:

  • Mix between slow and fast motion
  • Fade in and outs
  • Sometimes Cutting to the beats
  • Cinematic start
  • Short shot length
  • Hybrid
  • Jump cuts to different locations and time
Sound:
  • Some sound effects at the start
Cinematography:
  • Tight close up shots
  • Establish shots
  • Medium close ups
  • Wide shots
  • Variety of different angles
Mise en scene:
  • Variety of costumes, location, time and make up
  • Lighting for the stage
  • Bland colors used to show professionalism
Target Audience:

This video will be for every age group especially people who are into dance and theatrics, it will concentrate more on teens in love as they relate to the characters in the video.

Influential videos:
  • Try by P!nk we liked the way a story is told through contemporary dance
